The rules for adding integers were pretty simple:

If the signs are the same: --- Add the numbers --- Keep the same sign example: 5 + 8 a positive plus a positive =13 equals a positive -4 + (-6) a negative plus a negative = -10 equals a negative | If the signs are different --Find the difference -- Keep the sign of the number with the biggest absolute value example: 4 + (-5) = -1 -5 has the bigger absolute value, so the answer must be negative! 6 + (-4) = 2 6 has the bigger absolute value, so the answer must be positive! |
We also answered some word problems that involved subtracting integers. Remember, subtracting was the same as adding the opposite.
